I: Two types common switching power supplies

High frequency-switching mode power supply is a high efficency and high robust power mode. Among communications and electronic devices, HF-SMPS mainly used for power management chip (PMIC) LDO power supplies, 1.8v logic circuits, RF circuits, and external loads. The HF-SMPS does not support far-end feedback, so the output capacitor must be placed close to the chip pins. Because the HF-SMPS estimates the current through the voltage difference across the inductor, placing the capacitor at the far end increases the DCR of the feedback loop, causing errors.

FT-SMPS is a high-precision power mode that supports fast transient response, mainly for application processors, GPUs, COREs, modems, etc. The FT-SMPS supports multi-phase switching power supplies and supports remote differential feedback to detect dynamic load terminations, so the output capacitors need to be placed close to load terminals.

II: Why use high frequency transformer?

The high frequency transformer is a power transformer with a working frequency exceeding the intermediate frequency (10 kHz). It is mainly used for high frequency switching power supply transformers in H-F SMPS, and also for high-frequency inverters and high-frequency inverter welding machines. According to the working frequency, it can be divided into several grades: 10kHz- 50kHz, 50kHz-100kHz, 100kHz~500kHz, 500kHz~1MHz, 10MHz or more.

The main function of the high-frequency transformer is the transfer of energy or the storage of energy, depending on the operating mode of the switching power supply. The forward type is energy transfer, and the flyback type is energy storage and transfer. The high-frequency transformer is small in size, saving space and improving work efficiency.
